Believing that technology is a valuable tool for instruction and learning, but also believing that classroom technology is often used as a "time filler" with little academic value or as a public relations gimmic to impress parents, Heritage Christian School has taken a conservative approach to technology. We will use the technology as we determine how it better improves academic instruction and learning. You may read other articles to see how it is currently being used in the school.
TECHNOLOGY AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE

The Rosetta Stone language software has become a popular way to learn a foreign language. Currently, Heritage owns the software for Spanish, Chinese, and Swahili. Because we believe that Rosetta Stone is weak in teaching the grammar necessary to communicate in a foreign language, we have chosen to use the Rosetta Stone Spanish in conjuntion with our Spanish teacher. Students in Spanish class spend approximately seventy five percent of the time using Rosetta Stone, and twenty five percent of the time with teacher directed instruction.
Because the Hispanic population has grown rapidly in this country, we believe Spanish is the best language for the majority of students to learn. The other languages may be taken after a conference with the school administrator.

We currently use the Edline internet system as a communication tool with parents and students. Every parent receives a username and password that can be used to see their children's grades, assignments, and other school news.
Students use the Adobe Suite to produce the school yearbook. All yearbook pages are printed in full color at the school and sent to a book binder in Ohio. The use of Adobe Suite has given our students an advantage in the graphic arts area. Student also use this software to enhance pictures for photography competitions.
A computer lab is available for researching the internet and writing papers. The internet is protected by the SafeEyes internet filter.
Teachers use computers in the classroom for powerpoint presentations, and there is limited use of computers in elementary classrooms for remedial or advanced work in academic subjects.
Independent study on computers is available for upper level high school students who want to take a class that is not currently offered at Heritage.
